5 tricks to make your day at work more productive

Nothing makes us feel more self-confident and accomplished than a long list of tasks completed at the end of the working day. If you find yourself struggling to maintain your focus and get things done, don’t worry – productivity is a quality you can actually control and improve. Here are top 5 tricks to make your day at work more productive. (Guest Post)

1. Figure out your productivity cycle

First and foremost, you need to know what’s your productivity cycle like. You probably realize that you have both more and less focused moments during the day, that’s why it’s important that you use your time wisely.

To figure out your productivity cycle, use web-based productivity tools, such as Yast or RescueTime, which will give you precise information on how you spend your time when working at your computer.

2. Review your day

Pick out a moment in your morning routine and use it to review your day, every day. After two weeks, you’ll have formed a new habit that will help you boost your productivity. How does it work?

It’s simple. By reviewing your day right before it starts, you’ll not only avoid missing meetings and disrupting your schedule, but also have a firm grasp on your to-do tasks for the day, helping you to correctly prioritize them.

3. Exercise before work

Even if your schedule seems packed, find an hour for exercise at least three times a week. An exercise session before work is a must – it will increase the blood flow to your brain, leaving you energized, alert and ready to face any challenge during the day.

Regular exercise also improves your overall physical health, making you less susceptible to diseases and stress symptoms. This essentially means fewer sick days at work, better mood and improved handling of workplace-related irritation, anger and anxiety.

4. Take regular breaks

You’d be surprised to learn that spending several hours on one task with no breaks is quite damaging to both our minds and bodies. If you really want to improve your productivity, you simply must schedule breaks. They will refresh your mind and allow you to return to your tasks with renewed energy.

There are various work-break ratios out there, but it doesn’t really matter which one you follow as long as you leave your desk and computer screen at least several times during the day. When you feel stuck or tired, just take a break – have a walk, eat a healthy snack and return to your desk full of new ideas.

5. Try time boxing

Time boxing is an excellent strategy to help you make the most of your day. The idea is basically this one – you assign a certain amount of time to work on a specific task and then give this task your undivided attention for the set time frame.

Don’t think about finishing the task, but concentrate on the project itself. Create goals for each time frame and give yourself the time to concentrate on a project without interruptions.

Despite the fact that nowadays lots of work is automatized, workers still catch themselves spending more time at their office than they would like. Maximize your productivity and you’ll be sure to leave your desk on time, satisfied of your work output.
